10/6-Resolution (2012)
Light post for Resolution as it was more borderline horror than I had anticipated.
Resolution tells the story of Michael Danube, who leaves the city for a week to help his lifelong friend, Chris kick his crack addiction. When Chris refuses to go willingly to rehab, Michael tazes Chris and handcuffs him to a pipe to force him go cold turkey. Which leads to this fantastic exchange of lines:
"I made chili, do you want some?"
"Does it have crack in it?"
Michael begins to find strange records of deaths, some on pictures, slides, vinyl, and film. Unsure of how these records are appearing where they are, he begins to think that Chris' tweaker friends are messing with them. Things become even stranger as they begin to appear in some of the films and slides.
The biggest chills I've gotten from one of these movies so far came from Resolution when (SPOILER) Michael's computer begins streaming a live video of the two on its own. That intense sense of being watched sent shivers down my spine. It was very reminiscent of the "Second Honeymoon" segment of V/H/S. The irony is not lost on me, that I get very uncomfortable in movies where someone is being unknowingly watched and yet that's exactly what I am doing with these movies; I'm watching these (admittedly fake) people without them knowing.
Despite that chilling moment, there were few truly scary moments, one or two jump scares where about it. That said, the movie itself was very compelling with a thinker of an ending, just not the scarefest I was looking for.
Rating on the Spook-o-meter: 2 out of 10 boos
